MLK: A Day of Service

Did you know that Martin Luther King Day is a national Day of Service? The purpose is to call together Dr. King’s “Beloved Community” of Americans to find solutions to problems in our community and nation.  Dr. King encouraged us all to live up to our potential as citizens and participate in projects and services that strengthen our communities.

The mlkday.gov website offers ways to find a project, and also plan your own project.

As a reminder, we are offering a free download of our song, “Civil Rights Movement.”  This is a great way to teach students about the Civil Rights Movement and about Dr. King’s impact.   We encourage using the song in the classroom and creating performances and music videos! (Want some examples? Check out our YouTube Page!)

Also, be sure to stop over to the Martin Luther King, Jr. website and read about Dr. King and his many achievements that mapped out the groundwork for nonviolent change.

Will you be participating in this day of service?  Let us know what you, your students, your classroom, or your friends are doing!  Email us at taunia@educationalrap.com.

Anonymous asked: What resources do you have for children in 1-3 grades? I really like your site - mostly looks like resources for older ages?

Thanks for your question!  Most of our music is geared towards middle school students.  We do have some crossover academics that can go as early as fourth grade, though.   If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at taunia@educationalrap.com.
